What’s Behind the Name Verana Health?

At Verana Health, our mission is to accelerate medical innovation by empowering clinical researchers, life science analysts, and clinicians with data-driven insights. Central to that mission: the intelligent use of real-world healthcare data. 

We’ve come a long way since our formation in 2018, from a partnership between leading medical associations, physicians, and investors.

Our name, Verana Health, was chosen to reflect the essence of our company and its ambitious mission. It’s more than a label; it’s a constant reminder of our promise and our commitment to the future of medicine.

“To See Truth”

The first part of our name, Verana, holds a dual meaning rooted in linguistic origins. It combines the Latin adjective Vera, meaning “true,” with the Spanish verb Ver, meaning “to see.” This combination encapsulates our fundamental promise: to enable our stakeholders — physicians, researchers, and life science companies — to see truth through real-world data insights. 

In medicine, “truth” comes through evidence generated by rigorous research. This evidence guides clinical decision-making, informs patient care, and facilitates access to new treatments and innovative therapies.

Historically, our understanding of how medicines and devices work has largely been derived from prospective data collection through traditional clinical trials. While invaluable, these trials are very expensive and take years to complete. For many patients, time is a luxury they simply don’t have. 

By leveraging our unique access to clinical data and fostering deep partnerships with physicians, we can generate medical evidence using real-world data. 

This allows us to invert the traditional model of evidence collection, and embrace retrospective data and advanced analytics to uncover critical truths. We can arrive at meaningful medical answers in a fraction of the time, significantly accelerating the pace at which patients receive the care and treatments they urgently need.
